Award of the project MARA as UN-decade project of the year 2024
At the German nature conservation day 2024 in Saarbrücken, the project MARA was awarded the UN-decade project of the year 2024. Laudator Sabine Riewenherm, president of the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation, especially emphasized the holistic approach of the project to conserve the freshwater pearl mussel by aiming at a complete restoration of its habitat and that this goal is to be achieved by numerous cooperations with different partners. The assistant head of the district authority Passau, Hans Koller, expressed his pride to receive this award as representative of all project members in front of the notable audience of 500 attendees and explicitly thanked all partners and supporters of MARA for the excellent cooperation. Finally, the audience received an illustrated impression of the freshwater pearl mussel and its habitat by an image film.
